Community Health Workers (CHWs) do not provide clinical services but rather act as a liaison between the patient and healthcare or social services providers. CHWs help patients find the direction that meets their needs and desired goals; translating and simplifying the healthcare and social service “landscape”.
CHWs are an important member of the healthcare, public health and human service workforce. They sometimes go by other names such as Navigator, Patient Assistor, or Case Worker. There are over 100,000 Community Health Workers in the US alone.
